Dental sealants are thin, plastic coatings, which are applied to the chewing surfaces of the back molars and any deep grooves in the teeth. Sealants are an especially common preventative option for kids who are just learning how to brush their own teeth and may not be able to get into the far corners of the teeth and mouth quite yet. The sealant will act as a barrier between the teeth and any harmful plaque that may accidentally be left behind after brushing.

Dental sealants are easily applied in our office, either by Dr. Eleonora Balota or one of our skilled dental hygienists. First, the teeth are thoroughly cleaned and a solution is applied to the teeth to help the sealant bond with the enamel. Next, the liquid sealant material is applied to the surfaces of the teeth and a special light is used to harden the material.
Once you’ve received dental sealants, you will care for them in the same way you always have. Practice good oral hygiene techniques and visit Balota Family Dentistry at least every six months for a dental cleaning and exam.
