Dental bridges
If you have a gap between your teeth, a dental bridge may be the solution you’re looking for. A dental bridge is a prosthetic tooth that can literally “bridge the gap” between teeth by placing crowns on the teeth on either side of the gap (called abutment teeth) and anchoring a prosthetic tooth in between.
types of Dental bridges
There are three common types of dental bridges, which are:
- Traditional Bridges – The traditional bridge is the most commonly used type of dental bridge. This method involves placing crowns on the abutment teeth and placing the artificial tooth in between. The prosthetic tooth is commonly made of porcelain or ceramics that are fused to metal.
- Cantilever Bridges – A cantilever bridge is used when there is only one available abutment tooth. This type of dental bridge isn’t used often and we don’t recommend having them placed in the back of the mouth where it can damage your other teeth.
- Maryland Bonded Bridges – With this method, the artificial tooth is bonded to your abutment teeth by wings placed on each side of the bridge.

“Too often we underestimate the power of a SMILE, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”

PROCESS OF RECEIVING A DENTAL BRIDGE
You will need to visit our office for two visits to have your dental bridge placed. During the first visit, the abutment teeth will be prepared to receive dental crowns. Once they have been prepared for crowns, Dr. Nora Balota will take a mold of the teeth to be used as a model for your dental bridge. A temporary bridge will be placed until your custom made bridge is ready.
Once the bridge has been created and sent to our office, it’s time for your second appointment. During this appointment, the temporary bridge will be removed and the permanent one will be cemented into your mouth.
If you have a gap in your smile and would like to talk to Dr. Balota about receiving a dental bridge, please contact Balota Family Dentistry. Our dentist is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
