Family of threeWith Thanksgiving approaching, many of us are thinking only of turkey and pumpkin pie! However, Thanksgiving is the time of year that we should be showing gratitude for our loved ones and all that we have. Thanksgiving is a great time to show this gratitude, but we should really be thinking of the things we are thankful for all year. This is because it has been shown that gratitude can have a very positive impact on your overall health!

Health Benefits of Being Thankful

There has been an abundance of research done on the link between gratitude and how it impacts our health. Below are a few of the things that have been discovered:

  • Optimism – Being consistently grateful can contribute to a healthier and more positive outlook on life. This means that science has officially proven that looking for things to be grateful for can make you feel happier.
  • Heart Health – People who are more thankful for what they have typically get more sleep, suffer from less inflammation, and feel happier. These are all qualities that have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease.
  • Friendlier – It has been scientifically proven that happier people are more fun to be around! Expressing your gratitude to your friends and family can help you create new relationships and solidify current ones.
  • Feel More Rested – Lastly, making a list of things that you are grateful for can help you sleep better at night. If you are having difficulty sleeping, we recommend jotting down a few things you are grateful for. People who keep gratitude journals sleep better, longer and more peacefully.
